Jacqui & Dan
Van Gogh's Grandsons
Young Love Proves Itself · Escaping Small-Town Mediocrity · Coming-of-Age Pop
#VERSE
Pressures keep punchin’ at Jaqui and Dan
Found unopened mail his dad had tossed in the can
It was Dan’s college letter, his one shot to go
Jacqui snapped, "He wants you broke—and flying low”
#VERSE
Next day, Jaqui is focused in class
It’s AP Calc—Dan knows she’ll pass
But her best friend says, “Quit pushin’ so hard
Girls like us in a tech job get bullied and scarred”
#PRE-CHORUS
Sick of being pulled down
When they’re ready to fly
Wrestling doubters in that small-town mud
To claim control of their own lives
Though the town calls them kids
They’re now woman and man
Two passion-fueled dreamers
Named Jacqui and Dan
…and they sing…
#CHORUS
Don’t stand in our way
Dazzling dreams comin’ through
Build a life, grow in love
Seek the mountaintop view
Leave our small town behind
And those small-town dreams, too
Build a life, grow in love
Seek the mountaintop view
#VERSE
Coach Westhoff said, “Danny, you’re built to go pro
Skip the classrooms and college—grab a helmet, let’s go”
Jaqui snapped, “Coach, don’t you dare feed him that hype
He’s more than a jersey—let him live his own life”
#VERSE
On and on, every cynic a stubborn mule
Kicking holes in their dreams as they finished high school
The excuse was, “We don’t want you hurt by the world”
Dan said, “Quit seeing us as a weak boy and girl”
So…
#CHORUS
Don’t stand in our way
We have wings on our shoes
Build a life, grow in love
Seek the mountaintop view
We must leave you behind
If you snuff out our fuse
Build a life, grow in love
Seek the mountaintop view
#BRIDGE
After tossing their caps
The lovers faced their own doubt
At two different, distant colleges
Wasn’t how they dreamed of getting out
They felt homesick those first nights
But morning woke them with sunshine
They were waltzing in a brighter world
Like music for their open minds
#INSTRUMENTAL
#PRE-CHORUS
Sick of being separated
After one long year alone
Dan transferred to her college
A cheap apartment as their dream home
On the porch for sunsets
They’d talk about their plans
College, careers, wedding, kids
The dreams of Jacqui and Dan
#PRE-CHORUS
College, careers, wedding, kids
The dreams of Jacqui and Dan
…and they sing…
#CHORUS
Don’t stand in our way
Dazzling dreams comin’ through
Build a life, grow in love
Seek the mountaintop view
We outgrew the hurtful people
Who defied what we now do
Build a life, grow in love
Seek the mountaintop view
#OUTRO
Build a life, grow in love
Seek the mountaintop view
Build a life, grow in love
Seek the mountaintop view
